New Year in the Park: DE-0228 Obersee–Orankesee
Some parks become familiar over time — places you return to again and again because they’re easy to activate, reliable, and simply enjoyable.
For me, DE-0228 Obersee–Orankesee Recreation Park is one of those parks.
A Purposeful Activation
The main motivation for this activation was to qualify for the POTA “New Years Activator 2026” award, which requires completing at least one activation during the first week of the new year.
DE-0228 was the obvious choice: close to home, well known, and always a safe bet for a successful activation.
Winter Conditions Included
As luck would have it, Berlin delivered proper winter weather.
Fresh snow covered the park, temperatures were low, and operating conditions were… refreshing.
Despite the cold, the activation went smoothly:
- Setup was quick
- Equipment behaved perfectly
- Chasers were, as always, ready and supportive
Snow, cold fingers, and all — the activation was completed without issues.
Reward After the Radio
After packing up and warming our hands one last time, we did what every good winter activation deserves: 👉 we went out for lunch.
A warm meal felt like a well-earned reward after operating in the cold and was the perfect way to close the activation.
Final Thoughts
DE-0228 once again proved why it’s a favorite:
- Easy access
- Reliable results
- Works in all seasons
Starting the year with a POTA activation, snow on the ground, and good company felt like exactly the right way to welcome 2026.
